What family means

Attendees at Out & Equal share how they define family.

Someone who, no matter where you're from, who you are, what you are, and where you are in life, they'll always be there for you.

I define family, maybe not so much by blood but just who you're comfortable around, people you can depend on, your support system, people that are always there for you.

Family, I mean, there's so many different styles of family. For me, family is a group of people who get together and officially call themselves a family who love each other.

Family are those people around me that support me and know me the most. And love me for who I am without condition. Family is fluid. You allow people in to be your family and people you interact with, people you become deeply connected with becomes family. Family is... Not just who you choose, but who chooses you. So, so many people, their birth family rejects them when they come out.

Family, for me, are those that stand by you and have your back whenever you need or whenever you feel like sharing your story and living your moments. It's the people that really impact your life day to day.

It's the people that you rely on, it's the people that you know you can be yourself with completely.
