Planning for your future

Members of the LGBTQ community tell us about their goals and who they rely on to help secure their financial future.

My future? Oh, boy. Retiring. Being with family. Laughing. Um, enjoying the simple things in life.

I think giving back to the next generation is really important.

My wife and I are going to purchase some property and a little house there for vacationing and that's kinda one of our dreams.

I'm planning to adopt a kid in five, around four or five years from now.

In a place for my grandchildren to come and see us. So, for me, of course, retirement. Early retirement is the dream.

I still want to be able to live the lifestyle that I currently do. Ultimately, it's about getting to retirement and knowing that you have what you need to enjoy life.

You know, it would've been nice if somebody would have sat me down when I was in my early 20's and said, hey, let's plan for your future. And I'm at a point right now where I'm almost 40 and I'm starting to think what aging is going to look like, and what decisions I can make right now so that I set myself up for success in the future.

You set goals and you set them in terms. You know, what are you going to do this week? What are you going to do next month? What are you going to do in five years? You get to a certain point of time, then, sort of, your goals change a little bit about financial security as you get older and also your legacy.

Myself at 40, I'm thinking about that, big time and so, making sure that that plan is set and that I've got people that I can work with, that I trust.

I'm in my early 20's and I don't think I have the kind of financial education that I wish I had, so it's going to take some effort for me, personally, to kind of find that for myself and make sure I'm setting up my future right.

Maybe I will be able to go to someone and say, hey, can you help me meet some goals? It's okay to ask, it's okay to raise your hand and go, I don't know what to do. To be honest, money makes me stress a lot. So, that's actually, I reach out to professionals. I mean, I think the fact that you're doing all the right steps or you're doing the things that financial advisors recommend, it's very comforting knowing that, you know what, I think I have the right path.
