George Becknell has been a professional in the financial services business since 1986 acquiring clients, committed to their family/church/community/self, seeking a lasting relationship with someone who can help them realize their dreams. He offers comprehensive fee-based planning integrating innovative solutions using insurance and investments. George specializes in assisting physicians and other professionals. He holds the following designations: RIA, CLU, ChFC, CFBS, and FINRA Series 7, 6 & 63 registrations.
He has been married to Lori Lynch Becknell (Trinity ‘81) for 28 years and they have two beautiful daughters, Alex, 26, and Dani, 21, both graduates of Ole Miss.
Prior to entering the financial services profession, George spent 6 years (1979-1985) on active duty as a US Naval Officer after a one year (1978-79) stint as a teacher/coach in the NEISD system.
He is a graduate of Trinity University (1978) and Cole High School (1973) at Ft. Sam Houston. While attending Trinity he played on the football team (1975-78), ran track (1975-76), worked on campus in the Athletic Department and off campus at The Quarterdeck Restaurant as a waiter.
George is an active Trinity alum and supporter of the athletic teams. He attends many events and sits on Trinity’s Board of Visitors.
In his civic life, George is a past Chairman of the San Antonio Sports Foundation, holding this position from January 2005 through December 2007. He followed an illustrious line of previous chairs including: Jim Callaway – ATT; Pat Frost – Frost Bank; David Schmidt, M.D. – Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio and Spurs doctor; Bob Coleman – former owner of Texace Manufacturing.
George has been active on the Board since 1991 and has served in key roles for:
- US Olympic Festival 1993
- Pan American Games committee
- NCAA Regionals and Final Fours - 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 & 2010
- NCAC International Track Meet - 2002
