When Russ Ford was searching for the right career choice before graduating from Valparaiso University, he was searching for an opportunity with meaning that would evoke passion and purpose. He also desired the ability to have a wealth of resources and experts around him to utilize when needed. It didn’t take him long after starting at WestPoint Financial Group as a Financial Services Professional to realize that he had made the right choice.
“When I was sitting down in the first meeting with a client, I remember thinking to myself: ‘This is it,’” says Russ. “That feeling continues to grow every day. Building relationships and connecting with people is what I love about my career. Working with people one on one and making a personal connection with what their values and goals are is where I have always found my purpose. In my role with WestPoint, I do that on a daily basis but I’m also making a meaningful impact by helping people achieve their goals.”
In order to make that impact, Russ takes his clients through a thorough, personal process to not only develop goals, but to get to know the people and stories behind the goals. This comprehensive process provides a path for his clients to take their dreams and translate them into a roadmap that he will help navigate in an organized and systematic fashion.
“Without understanding what people value first, the story behind those values, and the goals that stem from them, the meaning behind a strategy is lost,” says Russ. “With the story and goals at the foundation, it enables me to make a real, lasting impact on their lives to help them get there.”
In addition to his practice at WestPoint, Russ referees small college men’s basketball at the NCAA Division 3, NAIA, and Junior College levels and has been involved in leadership in his local high school officials associations. He is also actively involved in the Valparaiso University Alumni Association, the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Indianapolis. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Russ enjoys exploring both Indianapolis and Bloomington, where he and his wife, Kathleen, reside. Kathleen is studying for a master’s degree in School Psychology at Indiana University. They enjoy attending athletic events, reading, working out, volunteering in the community and exploring the outdoors together.
