John M. Novak is the Agency qualified plans specialist of First Financial Group, a General Agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual). John is a Registered Representative of, and investment advisor representative of, MML Investors Services, LLC, a broker-dealer and registered investment advisor subsidiary of MassMutual.
He has specialized in the 401k and retirement plan marketplace since 1986, representing businesses and non-profit organizations in a number of states including California, Colorado, Texas, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York. Through First Financial Group, John represents businesses on a national basis. John represents business on a national basis offering alternate retirement plan provider solutions, general direction on suitable retirement plan types and design, and investment education. John routinely provides investment support to the Plan Sponsor and participants throughout the stages of initial review, implementation, and monitoring.
John holds the credential of Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®).AIF is the qualified plan industry's first and only professional designation that demonstrates knowledge and competency in the area of fiduciary responsibility and communicates a commitment to standards of investment fiduciary excellence. An AIF financial professional is also most proficient in supporting Trustees and fiduciaries in the design and implementation of their investment policies. John obtained the AIF designation to improve his understanding of those who hold fiduciary roles.
As an undergraduate, John represented The Vanguard Group of Investment Companies servicing small business retirement plans. His full-time career began with MassMutual, who has remained as his exclusive employer. John has maintained a focus on serving the needs of small to medium size businesses with the installation of new retirement plans and the assessment for conversion of existing plans. John's specialty is providing education to plan sponsors and participants.
Emphasizing his commitment to qualified plan support, John has continued extensive study through pension specialist schools, the PBGC, and ERISA/DOL Defined Contribution conferences. He has been a member of Oppenheimer Directors Council, MassMutual Top of the Council, and MMLIS Premier Partners.
John participates in the Mid-Atlantic Pension Study Group (MAPS) and lectures regularly on retirement planning to institutions and professional groups within the industry. He teaches CE accredited courses to agents, Registered Representatives, attorneys and CPAs in PA, NY, NJ and DE.
Committing time to the local community, John volunteer teaches Applied Macro Economics to high school seniors and middle school students through the national Junior Achievement Program. John presently volunteers as a teacher in mathematics at Silver Springs Martin Luther School. John is also an energetic volunteer and dynamic builder with Corazon, a California non-profit organization that serves the poor in Mexico and Central America. Corazon offers shelter, education, and community to thousands of our neighbors in northern Baja California and in the poorest states of Mexico. John is also a volunteer with Corazon de Vida, Kiva, PMBA, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, and Mommy’s Light.
He lives in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, suburban to Philadelphia, not far from the Worcester farm where he was raised.
