Entrepreneurship had always appealed to Scott Varon. His introduction to financial advising, however, was through his father, who works in the industry. "I watched him build a business from scratch, so by the time I got to college, I knew exactly what I wanted to do," says Scott.
After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in risk management, Scott was hired by a major national financial services company. It was there that he had his first opportunity to put his academic learning into practice, and grow his own book of business.
Several years later, Scott reconnected with Seth Cohn, a college friend who was working in the same industry. At the time, Seth was giving lectures on financial management to physicians at Emory University through a program he had created called The Business of MedicineTM. Seth and Scott put their heads together and decided they could expand the lecture series to other teaching hospitals in Atlanta and beyond.
The partnership grew from there, and together they co-founded the firm now known as WealthMD. "We knew each other well, we trusted each other, and it was really exciting to know if we teamed up we could create something really original," Scott recalls. Today, WealthMD focuses exclusively on the financial planning needs of physicians – from residents to those already established in practice, in almost every single specialty.
Scott's role within WealthMD spans three areas: helping clients with their financial planning needs, continuing to lecture to physicians, and developing new relationships in order to expand the reach of the Business of MedicineTM program. Given his strength at cultivating relationships, Scott is particularly concerned with ensuring that clients enjoy their experience with WealthMD. "It's important to me that our clients are happy and comfortable going through the financial planning process."
When he's not at work, Scott spends as much time as he can with his wife Julie and their twin boys. To let off steam, Scott plays in a men's basketball league after work. "I've always played team sports, and this league is my therapy!" he says.
