    MassMutual Scores 100 Percent on Corporate Equality Index

    Springfield, Mass., November 19, 2015 –The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) announced this week that Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) scored 100 percent on its Corporate Equality Index (CEI), earning a place on the CEI 2016 Best Places to Work List.

    HRC, the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, annually surveys corporations that opt in using the CEI, its national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT employees. For 2016, MassMutual scored 100 percent, one of 57 Fortune 100 companies that scored the top rating.

    The CEI process evaluates companies based on equal employment opportunity, LGBT-friendly benefits, employee support, public engagement and responsible citizenship and assigns a rating to each.

    Results are compiled across all participating companies and published annually, indicating the strides that corporate America has made in providing workplace equality to all employees.

    MassMutual provides domestic partner and transgender benefits, and recently developed transgender guidelines for its employees and managers.   Through its Pride employee resource group, MassMutual has expanded its presence at the local and national level with sponsorship of events like the Northampton, MA, “NoHo” Pride Parade, Phoenix Pride in Phoenix, AZ,  the NGLCC (National Gay and Lesbian Chambers of Commerce), Out and Equal Workplace Advocates, and GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network). 

    This year, MassMutual sponsored the Out100 Gala and the #VowToProtect award presented to Evan Wolfson on Nov. 9.

    The company was also one of the first to join the historic “friend of the court” brief that was filed in the U. S. Supreme Court urging the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and is a member of the Human Rights Campaign Business Coalitions for Benefits Tax Equity and for Repealing DOMA.
