MassMutual Key Sponsor of “NoHo Pride”

(Springfield, MA) – Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), a proud long-time sponsor of Northampton’s Pride Parade and Rally, known as NoHo Pride, has stepped up its level of support of the event this year. For more than 30 years, NoHo Pride has been a community-building event in Northampton, and the 162-year-old MassMutual, located in Springfield, decided to strengthen its support this year to underscore the company’s shared belief that it is imperative to honor the integrity, history and community of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people and their allies (LGTBA), while focusing on awareness and unity.

“MassMutual is proud to advance Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender inclusion in both the company and in the broader communities it serves,” said Lorie Valle-Yañez, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, MassMutual. “Sponsoring this event is a natural fit for us,” she added.

MassMutual supports the LGBT community in various ways, beginning internally with sponsorship of its thriving PRIDE Employee Resource Group (ERG). The company also was one of the first to join the historic “friend of the court” brief that was filed in the Supreme Court urging the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), is a long-time supporter of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) and is a member of the Human Rights Campaign Business Coalitions for Benefits Tax Equity and for Repealing DOMA.

“Our support of the Pride Parade and Event in Northampton is more than just a monetary sponsorship,” said Dawn Reesman, chair of MassMutual’s PRIDE ERG for LGBTA employees. “We thoughtfully increased our support this year to continue to make a statement that MassMutual is the employer of choice among LGBT individuals in western Massachusetts.”

Geoffrey Croteau, a MassMutual representative from the Northampton area who specializes in working with and understanding the unique needs of the LGBT market will be on hand to answer questions regarding establishing a strong financial foundation to protect loved ones, as well as about working with MassMutual.

“We look forward to an increasingly mutual relationship with MassMutual, a local company that diligently works to foster education, awareness and unity among the LGBT and allied communities, just as NoHo Pride does,” said Cid White, coordinator of the non-profit NoHo Pride organization.

The 32nd annual LGBT parade and Pride event will begin 12 p.m., May 4, 2013, rain or shine at 3 CountyFairgrounds, Northampton.
