SpecialCaresm: getting started
our approach
Our Person Centered Planning Process keeps the person with a disability or other special needs as the primary focus and develops a Life Plan that enables that person to obtain the best quality of life possible.

A Life Plan is a coordinated program of social, medical, financial and legal strategies for people with disabilities and their families. It is a document that continually changes to adapt to the needs of the special needs individual throughout their life.

Person Centered Planning Process

A. A Financial Professional, certified in SpecialCaresm, will work with the person with a disability or other special needs, their family members or caregiver, and their professional advisors to:
understand the social, medical and legal needs of the special needs individual,
review the complete financial picture,
offer options that make the most sense,
ensure that benefits such as Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income won't unintentionally be jeopardized,
maximize finances, and
help maintain the lifestyle of the special needs individual.

B. Medical Professionals provide informational and emotional support for the special needs individual and/or families.

C. Social Workers often act as the client advocate when working with other service professionals (e.g. schools, medical facilities, Financial Planners).

D. Attorneys provide legal services for special needs individuals and/or families. They work closely with Financial Planners to develop the proper documentation for various items such as trusts.

E. Financial Planners seek to understand the unique financial requirements of a person with a disability or other special needs and their family in order to properly develop a comprehensive financial plan.

F. The Family Member or Caregiver plays a pivotal role in determining the proper care and benefits for the person with a disability by working closely with other members of the team.
