(Springfield, Mass.) - From fitness and nutrition to money management and vocational services, more than 7,000 Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) disability income (DI) insurance policyholders have tapped into ComPsych®'s GuidanceResources® Program, a customized, no-cost employee assistance program supplied by the Chicago-based company.
"We implemented and continue to increase the use of GuidanceResources with a single focus: our policyholders. Our hope is to provide policyholders with that extra support they seek to stay healthy and balance their lives and to help those who have a disability to adjust to their new lives," said Larry Hazzard, vice president of marketing, Disability Income Insurance, MassMutual.
As the first insurance provider to offer an extensive variety of resources to all of its individual disability income insurance policyholders, MassMutual continues to break new ground. By eliciting feedback from participants, ComPsych and MassMutual are able to identify and address day-to-day and time-of-crisis needs to help develop new program enhancements.
According to aggregated data provided by ComPsych, during the first six months of the program participants have accessed secure online tools to confidentially seek information on the following top areas of interest: fitness and nutrition, emotional well-being, money management, estate planning and elder care, debt and bankruptcy, divorce and domestic issues and buying and selling an auto.
The aggregated data also illustrated that MassMutual disability income insurance policyholders with disabilities who are receiving benefits from MassMutual sought one-on-one counseling on personal, family, legal and financial issues and vocational services to help them return to work and/or prepare them for positions in new career fields.
According to Hazzard, policyholders have expressed a 98 percent satisfaction rate with the program and, thanks to continued input, MassMutual and ComPsych are working together to further customize services. This feedback process helped in the development of a one-on-one counseling program to lead policyholders to MassMutual for additional vocational services, including developing accommodations to help them return to work and/or vocational training to prepare them for positions in new career fields.
Hazzard described one particular example of a policyholder receiving disability income insurance benefits from MassMutual who was self employed before becoming disabled. A personalized plan was developed to provide the policyholder with transitional funding for a lease and office expenses to get started working again on a part-time basis," he explained.
