Ronald A. Copes, MassMutual corporate vice president (left), presents MassMutual employee Bernice Drumheller the 2004 Volunteer of the Year award for her work with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Western Massachusetts (NAMI-WM). R. Leroy Moser, vice president of the NAMI-WM Board of Directors looks on.
The Volunteers in Action (VIA) program encourages the volunteer efforts of full-time home office employees by awarding $750 grants in their honor to eligible non-profit organizations to which they donate their time and talent. A Volunteer of the Year who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to his or her cause is selected annually among the VIA winners. An additional $2,000 is presented to the non-profit organization on behalf of the Volunteer of the Year.

Bernice Drumheller, life services analyst, was selected as the 2004 Volunteer of the Year for her involvement with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Western Massachusetts. For more than 15 years, Bernice has volunteered her time in various capacities for the organization. She serves as a Family-to-Family Education Teacher. In this role, she educates and offers support to the family members of loved ones with mental illness. This vital service helps families secure the services they need and, equally as important, understand they are not alone. Her efforts have helped improve the quality of life for both those with mental illness and their families.

Organizations ranging from the Springfield Museums to the Network Against Domestic Abuse of North Central Connecticut received grants in 2004 thanks to the dedication of MassMutual employees.

Eligible full-time MassMutual employees and retirees may access the VIA application below for additional information.
