We seek to provide our employees and agents with the opportunity to engage with their communities through philanthropic programs that address important societal issues.
In our Communities
LifeBridgeSM - Free Life Insurance Program
Our unique LifeBridge Free Life Insurance Program provides $50,000 term life insurance policies free-of-charge to eligible parents or guardians. We pay the premiums, and our agents drive the program in their communities. If an insured parent or guardian dies during the 10-year term, a $50,000 benefit funds a trust1 serviced by our trust company to pay eligible dependent children's educational expenses. Our goal is to give away $1 billion in coverage. As of May 31, 2009, we are halfway to our goal and have provided over a half billion dollars in free life insurance coverage across the country.
Charitable Giving
We help enhance the quality of life within our communities by supporting efforts within our focus areas of education and career pathways, economic development and community vitality through grant making and collaborative efforts such as:
- Encouraging the generosity of our eligible employees, agents, and company directors by matching their charitable contributions to qualified non-profit organizations.
- Recognizing the exceptional community service efforts of our General Agents and qualified agents through Community Service Awards to qualified, non-profit agencies they volunteer with.
- Engaging employees in our annual United Way campaign through contributions, special events and volunteer opportunities.
- Supporting local education, arts and culture initiatives through sponsorships and grants to organizations like Junior Achievement and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
Economic Development
We take an active role in Springfield's redevelopment and in particular the State Street corridor just outside our front door. We've worked with city officials to convene a group of more than 50 property owners, academic institutions, community-based organizations, and neighborhood groups to form the State Street Alliance. This group's mission is to create and implement a comprehensive economic redevelopment strategy for the State Street corridor. This initiative has the potential to significantly improve the economic climate of a central artery of the city and the immediate neighborhood of our home office.
HOME Program
Our HOME (Home Ownership for MassMutual Employees) program provides education and information on various aspects of homeownership. The program awards forgivable loans to qualified MassMutual employees who are first-time home buyers purchasing a primary residence in Springfield.
In Our Agent and Client Communities
Community Service Awards
MassMutual recognizes the exceptional community service efforts of our General Agents and eligible agents by providing $10,000 grants to eligible, non-profit agencies they volunteer with through the Community Service Awards Program. The selection process is based on the applicant's eligibility, their commitment to the non-profit organization, degree of hands-on involvement and the impact of their volunteer efforts.
Matching Gift Program
We recognize and encourage the generosity of our eligible employees, agents, and company directors by matching their charitable contributions to qualified non-profit organizations
